Iris hollandica ‘Discovery’ produces sturdy, 2′ stems holding dark violet-blue blooms with golden orange blazes. This Dutch Iris is a flower arranger’s dream.

These colorful hybrids make impressive clumps among perennials in the middle of the border. Give them an open, sunny site and forget about watering in summer—they would be happier on the dry side. They grow best in well-drained soil that has a pH close to neutral.

Dutch Iris are beautiful with Roses, Peonies, Oriental Poppies, Alliums, and Foxgloves, and are valued for their long life in a vase. You may have noticed them at your local florist shop or cut-flower market.
