Offering a burst of color in early spring and blossoming nonstop into early summer is showy Geum Tempo™ Rose, which produces a profusion of ruffled, richly detailed dark rosy-pink flowers on short, burgundy stems above a mound of lobed, serrated green leaves. The foliage makes a fine ground cover over a long season. The deer-resistant plants are nicely sized for the edges of sunny borders where they will attract butterflies. Geum is an extremely hardy genus of about 50 species, mostly from north or south temperate zones and the Arctic. Both flowers and foliage are attractive, and they are not particular about soil. They do best in sun and also thrive in light shade. They bloom early, but moisture and deadheading will bring flowers all season. Small Geums are splendid rock garden plants. Give the larger varieties front-row positions in the perennial border.
